FATCAT MOTOPARC, SUNDAY 30TH MARCH
The opening round of the new-for-2025 Mecca-X Club Championship kicked off at the brilliant FatCat Moto Parc, Doncaster, last Sunday.
Congratulations to all competitors – close racing across all groups provided an action-packed day of fun. Roy Townley in the 65s, Johnny Wright in the SW85, Levi Saunders in the Clubman A and Steve Bixby in the Vets all kept a clean sheet in their respective classes with three wins from 3 three starts.
There was a strong turnout in the 65cc and 85cc classes with consistent battles throughout the day. The young guns ripped through the long motos on a physically demanding track.
Roy Townley topped the leaderboard in the 65 championship runnings. He had a convincing ride against his fellow members, and was followed by Louie Peet, closely followed by Harley Sims. With Billy Little and Rufus Ambler both in pursuit of a top three position.
On to the SW85s, and Johnny Wright is currently leading the championship, followed by Tyler Peaty, Nathan Weaver, and Harrison Chapman. A close battle for fifth in the championship saw Harry Skillen and Ciaran Reene both on 107 points with Guy Varney close behind with 105.
Olly Borg led the BW85 group with Sonny Shipton second and Chloe Cordner a close third. Riley Skillen, in fourth, had an unfortunate day’s racing with two DNFs.
The Youth 125 racing was filled with battles as Reggie Willet came out on top in the championship, with Sonny Bixby in close pursuit. They were followed by Freddy Willet and Luke Hodgson who picked up the same number of points with 120 apiece – Freddy got the nod for third with a higher finish in the last race. Harry Annett was fifth, three points ahead of Jay Foreman in sixth.
Racing with the 125s, the Youth 250 class also witnessed some great racing between the championship leader Lenny Wright and second-placed Harry Farlam. Third place was Daniel Charman with Oliver Rimmer close behind.
In the Vet 35+, Steve Bixby’s domination of all three races placed firmly on the top step on the day, and in the championship standings. He was followed by Paul Barrand in second, Lucan Day in third, and Roger Frean in fourth. After experiencing a sizeable crash in Saturday’s practice, Denzil Amoah had a solid ride to bring his bike home in fifth.
The Clubman C championship started off with a bang. Frankie Jarret leads going into the second round with Melvin Masters second while Dan Smith and Connor Anderson tie on 116 points. Sam Pithers is fifth.
Clubman A saw an intense battle between club members Levi Saunders and Rheis Morter. Levi leads the championship, Rheis on a 250 2-stroke is second and, with a solid ride, Jon Waghorn is third.
BOOK HERE for the second round of the Mecca-X Club Championship at Sellindge MX, Kent on Sunday, the 27th of April.
CLUB MEMBERSHIP offering a membership loyalty programme, is also still open!
Please note: Mecca-X Club Championship standings are not necessarily the same as the overall on the day. This is because riders, who aren’t a member of Mecca-X can score points and win a trophy on race day, however, they will not earn Club Championship points. Club members could well find themselves elevated in their respective classes after the event finishes. This is one of the many benefits of Mecca-X Club membership!
As a reminder, this is a six-round championship and members can drop one round so any Mecca-X Club members, or potential members – as membership is still open – that couldn’t make it to the FatCat round, are still in the running for vital championship points during the five remaining rounds in the South East.
